Lino Kino is seeking submissions for throwntogetherness, a multi-day screening event organized collaboratively with Portland, OR, new media collective Mobile Projection Unit and curators Laurel V. McLaughlin and Jaleesa Johnston. The goal of this open call is to create an exciting survey of the vast range of inspirations and approaches that inform the work of artists from Philadelphia. The final program will also include the works chosen by the Portland curators and will be screened in both Philadelphia and Portland in August 2022.
We are soliciting works from individuals or groups in the Philadelphia, PA metropolitan area that embody uniquely local points of view and experiences to further investigate the integral role of place-based practices in new media art. This project is funded by a grant from the University of Pennsylvania’s Sachs Program for Arts Innovation.
Indigenous artists, queer artists, artists of color, and those showing work for the first time are highly encouraged to submit. Proposals for new work (maximum length one page) will be accepted. Chosen submissions are expected to be complete and ready for screening by the beginning of July 2022.
Please send questions or submissions with your name, location, name of project, length of project, and a link or file of the project (or proposal, if applicable) to linokinovideo@gmail.com by May 9th, 2022. Please keep submissions to 10 minutes or shorter. All artists included in throwntogetherness will be paid a small honorarium as well as being included in the project’s digital archive, a website experimenting with the preservation and presentation of events across localities.
